Biologist/Zoologidt: Captive Breeding Profession?

If you are into captive breeding, you are probably looking at working at a zoo or for a conservation organization. I don't think they pay much unless you are an experienced scientist who is an expert in your field and who have published extensively. You are overly qualified for jobs that can be handled by a graduate student who works for peanuts but not qualified enough to be the head of an institution.

There are also breeders out there who don't have doctoral degrees but who have had years of practical knowledge on keeping and breeding animals in captivity. They may be cat breeders, dog breeders, reptile breeders, or even amphibian breeders. The kind of knowledge they have are often not taught in universities. Your best bet of gaining such knowledge is to work for one of these breeders and gain the knowledge by watching and coaxing them out of the breeders.

What are you intending on breeding captively and why?

I am studying biology and once I'm down with my post graduate degree I will be interested in a career in Captive Breeding, but there's no information online about the profession itself. If anyone had any information on the process of becoming one or how much the annual salary is please write me!

Thanks
