Mites - the kind that take to birds - are not that difficult to get rid of. Certainly nowhere near as getting rid of fleas.
I have Bard Swallows that migrate to Alaska (where I live) and we have boxes put up for them. My neighbors hate these birds - I love them because they eat a ton of mosquitoes every day. One year when the young had fledged I opened up a box and the whole thing was filthy covered in thousands of those mites. My stomach rolled - and I felt so bad for the poor little birds that had to grow up in there. The next year I bought a dog flea collar, cut it up into 1.5" small pieces and put them in each house. Check the boxes - no mites - and all the babies were plump and healthy. Now - I have a fight every spring time - because some of those birds have figured out living in those boxes 'cures' their mite issue - and there are not enough boxes for all the birds that want to roost and nest.
You - should try the same thing. Go grab a few dog flea collars (don't forget to stretch them or read the instructions to activate them) and put small pieces right next to each nest with a staple gun. This will immediately begin killing them at the source.
They make the same kind of mite killer in a home/small bird cage holder - of course they charge more money for this - but this is what you need to put on your pet birds cage to protect them.
The rest of the rooms - they still make the 3 month pest strips. One of these covers several rooms...... I have 5 parrots - quaker, sun conures, green cheek conures - and we have one of these in the house. Our birds are fine. These will not kill the mites overnight, but, after a few days you will notice the problem is not getting worse, then, after a week they should be gone.
You can probably do all this for under $30.

Ok so I live next to a church and a few days ago these birds settled in our attic and they have bird mites and my family found out weve been getting bitten and theyre all over the house but we dont own the house, so the church owns it so we cant call an exterminator but they will have to pay for it but theyre very cheap and we have pet parakeets and they will just blame it on them so they wont have to pay so much so can someone please help us think of a lie to say so they will get rid of them without making us give away our pets
