is there a difference between a cougar and a mountain lion and a puma?

Is there a difference between a jaguar and and a leopard?

Cougar, puma and mountain lion are different names for the same animal. There are different subspecies, though. The North American Cougar and the Florida panther are found in the US. There are four subspecies of cougar found in Central and South America.

Jaguars and leopard are different animals found in different parts of the world. The leopard, panthera pardus, is found in Africa and Asia.

Jaguars, panthera onca, is found in the Americas.

The snow leopard, panthera uncia, is found in the mountainous areas of Central and South Asia.

Cougar, Mountain Lion, and Puma are all different names for the same cat.

Cougar, Jaguar, and Leopard are three different kinds of cats.

Panther can refer to either a Cougar, Jaguar, or Leopard, depending on where you are. Generally, in Africa (where they have Leopards but not Cougars or Jaguars), Panther refers to Leopards. In North America (where they have Cougars but not Leopards or Jaguars), Panther refers to Cougars. In South America (where they have Jaguars but not Leopards), Panther refers to Jaguars (even though they have Cougars too).

Although the term Black Panther can only refer to Jaguars or Leopards. There are no black Cougars.

Cougar, mountain lion & puma are of the same species while leopards & cheetahs have different spots from each other.
