Helping my boyfriend choose a bird? Please read?

If he wants a larger bird he might look at Patagonian conures. Mine was such a joy. They can be very noisy not a good choice for an apartment. They are extremely intelligent---at least mine was. Funny birds. They are the size of a small macaw and have much the same personality.

Another nice bird is the Senegal. Very active and love to please. Not very noisy at all.

I know an experienced bird rehabber. The only bird he will not handle is a severe. He says they are very unpredictable. Now I'm sure this is not true in all cases but I will take his word for it.

Mini Macaws are very destructive and need to constantly be watched, they can and will destroy almost anything they can get there beaks on even the clothing you're wearing. They can create holes in clothes, destroy buttons and zippers, shred wooden furniture and even takes keys out from the keyboard.

They don't like to be confined and need lots of time outside the cage, more then most species.

They are active and cant seem to sit still for long.

They will bond strongly with only one person and crave that persons attention. They need 2-4 hours of this persons attention, the bird will probably not like you spending time with "his/her" person and may attack. Most likely wont bond with you if the bird has bonded strongly with another person but may tolerate you.

They are territorial and should not be in the same room as your birds(wouldn't want them landing on each others cages)

They are nippy and do not like to be touched for long, they will let you know with there beak. Eventually you will learn there body language so you can stop before the bite comes.

I just wanted to write as many possible negatives as I could since these tend to be overlooked when getting a bird.

Mini Macaws are very inquisitive, tend to be talkers, very expressive.. et cetera there are many positives as well.

African Grey might be a good choice since he already has experience with these birds especially if his uncle is willing to help him when/if the bird is sexually maturing, hormonal, behaviour problems, plucking.. et cetera

Conures, there are many different conures, very clownish.

Senegal, very intelligent

Pionus, a large beginner bird. Very calm.

African Grey Red Tail Parrot. :) not too big, not too small. VERY AFFECTIONATE and intellegant.

I have a cockatiel and a lovebird and he has spent a lot of time with them over the past year and a half but he is wanting something a bit bigger but I want to help him find one but don't want him to end up getting one he cannot handle. I recommended a conure to him but as I have small birds I don't know too much about larger birds. I was thinking maybe one of the mini macaws I know he loves the severe macaw but how is the responsibility when it comes to them? he has only had budgies although his uncle has an African grey which he has also spent a lot of time with. any help would be great.
