Could have been kids messing around. When I was a kid there were two girls up the street that used to bully me, so I did something like that to them one night, laughed at their reactions and then was talking to a friend on the bus to school the next day about ghosts in the neighborhood. >>; Yeah, they deserved more, trust me.

Could have been a bird of some sort. Loose pet who mimics or a native bird that can. Some birds have a bit of a giggle sound they make.

Ghosts...heh. It's possible.

I haven't heard foxes make sounds anywhere NEAR like little girls laughing, but they can make some odd noises indeed. They can scream and it sounds like a woman being murdered. They can also sorta cackle or giggle. Look up vocals on youtube for the red fox, should find several, they have about a dozen commonly used sounds. A sound they make called "Gekkering" can sound kinda like it I suppose...not really though, you can pretty much tell it's not human. Kits can make sorta a cooing noise.

Well you do you live by a neighbor that has little girls maybe they could be sneaking around trying to do a prank or something. but I had similar experience when I lived in an apartment and lived by a field felt crazy activity like a little kid yelling and hearing noises and hissing. what I recommend is doing some research where you live. it could be a ghost I would call someone that knows paranormal maybe a psychic to see what's up.

Very likely to be a fox. They make odd chirping noises and they 'cackle', which sounds very much like human laughter.

I would guess it is a Fox. Listen to some foxes on youtube they sound very creepy.

I'm from South west England and basically I heard laughing like little girls laugh in my garden late lasting night, afterwards my cat hissed as she was in the garden at the time. I've been thinking it was an animal but it sounded so much like a human girl, I'm not going crazy I swear there has to be some kind of explanation ... ?!
