I think you would have to tame the bird and you will be fine.

They are lovely birds, you are not spending enough time in training. Wish I was near you, I would take him.
5 months ago, I got a pet cockatiel and I kind of want to return him. He's adorable but he's noisy and he bites. I just feel like a bird is not the right pet for me.
