A single coyote of sound mind would bolt. They don't normally attack people. If they do it's in a pack. You should report this incident to the police or animal control. You could carry pepper spray(check state law first). How are you at climbing? Climbing a tree is a good way to escape dogs. Even climbing onto a car can work. It sounds like you did okay. I bet it was as scared of you as you were of it.
It was around 10 pm at night when I was downstairs outside my apartment from work and I was about to enter the apartment from the front entrance instead of the ground level but when I was about to walk up this hill to the front entrance of my apartment I saw a skinny coyote. It saw me as well I wanted to walk past it but I was scared that it would attack me so I stood there scared and we made eye contact which I knew I shouldn't have done cuz they can sense fear but I couldtnt help it. So I was closer to the ground level entrance and I immediately ran and keep looking back at the coyote that didn't try to attack me and I entered safely into the building. What can I do next time? I've heard that we're supposed to make the coyote scared but wouldn't that agitate it? and I'm only a 17 year old girl who's extremely weak and I'm not that big or tall to scare it off?
