My New Cockatiel?

My first cockatiel was the same way. Start feeding her treats so she can get used to your hand. Then hold millet in your hand and make her step up. She WILL bite but if she's like my first one, she won't draw blood. Just keep doing this and eventually you won't have to use millet anymore. I hope you have fun with your friend I love mine so much, I bought another!

Slow down, give her a a few days before you try to get her to step up, let her get used to her new home which requires days not hours. Do try to feed her a treat, "Cheerios" a few times a day .

The Hissing is "fear", so you need to ease her fear of you, her new owner. You must be patient with poor Luna, she is surely stressed out right now.

Its no good to do research if your going to ignore it. Where did you read it was ok to force a new bird to step up on the first day.? Let it settle in for a week

Ok, so I got my first bird yesterday. A female cockatiel. Ok Im going to tell the story of her(sorry its long)

Ok So her original owner found her wandering around the park hungry and dehydrated so he took her in and nursed her. He has a wife and at least 6 kids in his small house. Hes had her for 2 years but they were moving and needed to find her a good home so I got her for my birthday. I had been wanting a cockatiel for a while and I had already done my research on how to care for them and play with them. So we took her home yesterday night. Later my mom and I went out and got her a new cage. we set it up and put her in. I let her explore for a good while then I went to take her out and she hissed at me and started to attack my finger(but she did not draw blood). I left her alone for a while Then I tried to get her again. She attacked my finger but eventually stepped up. I got a thin slice of carrot and a cheerio and she nibbled on the cheerio but ignored the carrot. I put her back and went to sleep. In the morning she attacked my finger a little bit but she still stepped up. This afternoon i went to get her out and she ran away from me and hissed at me a lot. I closed her cage, shut my door, and havent gone in in over an hour. If anybody has any advice on how I can get Luna(I just named her Luna yesterday) to not attack me and run away I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
