My female Zebra finch laid her eggs in the food dish!?

I have a male and female Zebra finch. Though I gave them a nest box, they laid their eggs in the food dish. Should I move them? What should I do?

Don't move them, if you move them the mother won't recognize them as hers and would most probably start laying again in the food dish.

Leave them their and add a new food dish for them to feed from.

BTW, the mother can't smell you on their eggs and won't abandon them if you touch them.

BUT bacteria from the hand can leech into the egg and kill the chick.

You should always leave the nest alone, even if you know a better spot. Usually if you move a nest the animal would just change back to their original spot or leave the eggs.

If you want to move them, use latex gloves and wash your hands before/after.

Do not touch the eggs!! You could cause the smell to change, making the mother abandon them.

You could just place another food bowl in the cage with them in a different location. She's already laid the eggs so she won't need another nesting place.
