New to parakeets, questions. Unactive bird.?

My parakeet was the same way . . . Playful at the store and shy and un active once home . Also she was purchased at petsmart. I would recommend getting him a friend or a mirror . I put a mirror in mines cage and she perk right up started to chirp livley and run up and down her perches and even wanted to come out of the cage. I guess she felt more at home with a friend. But you should watch out with the mirror becuase son parakeets can get aggressive toward them. I also sometimes go on YouTube and play other parakeet s chirping and that seemed to work well. I hoped I helped

if you got him from petsmart, you should know that at least half (I think) of their stores recently warned people that "oops" their parakeets were infected with a bacterial infection that can spread to humans... you should call and ask about that. Between a parakeet and a conure - I don't know that parakeets ever get to be that happy to be around people, conures are pretty people-oriented... birds need at least 12 hours of sleep, they sleep at night, wake up really early, sleep at different times during the day - maybe try playing with him in the morning; they also take time to adjust to new surroundings, smells, food, people. Weird about the millet, though.

I think you should give him some time to get used to his surroundings first and could get him like a mirror or another bird or something. I bought mine at mocha pet and I live in Ohio and mine were very active. But I think there are some in other places.

I have a new parakeet that would play with other parakeets at the store, but does not play here at home. I have been more than patient with him, and it is paying off, I can already get him on my hand and kiss his belly and beak as well as softly stroke his wings and stuff. He seems to eat and drink well, I got him some vitamins to put in his water because for a while I was paranoid that he was sick, despite his well kept appearance. I'm just not sure how I can get him to be more lively. I can tempt him only slightly with millet he won't move to far to get to it even if it's an inch away most of the time he just sits there, only when I put it up to his face will he go for it. How can I get him to play more? I don't want more than one because I want a strong bond with this one. I'm just unsure how to motivate him. I'm used to conures that would do anything for a treat. So little budgie behaviors are quite strange to me. ;-; please help.

He usually just sits in one spot all day in his large cage with a lot of toys (I've taken most out to give him room ) He seems to fall asleep some throughout the day with small chirps rarely heard and only every so often will he begin to chirp loudly and hop around his cages a bit flapping his wings and staring at me.

I have had him for only 10 days. I have till 15 days in decision to bring him back if he is in fact sick or something.
