Good question! That's not a terrible description, but without knowing whereabouts this is, it's pretty much impossible even to make a rough guess with any decent chance of accuracy. There are just too many things it might be, and nothing you describe is specific enough to lean in any direction. That's why a photo is so helpful; even a rough photo lets us get a sense of shape and size, and for many spiders, it lets us narrow down the options at least to family. All I can say is, if this is in the US, it was probably not a bad biter.

Sadly your description is too vague to tell, I don't know where this was found but may have been a nursery web spider or huntsman of sort. Quite harmless.

I was with my friends at school and we were leaning against the wall to get shade and then my friend pointed out a spider on the wall. It had long thin legs and a triangular body with an orangish colour on it. It was about the size of a light switch. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
