Which animal is a better hunter a wolf or a tiger and why?

A tiger is a ambush killer, and stealth is always the best policy.

What a group of wolves can do, a single tiger can.

Depends on the environment. Wolves are pack hunters. That means they can take down larger pray than themselves, but they also have to share. If prey is scarce, this is a disadvantageous strategy for weaker members of the pack.

Tigers are solitary hunters, which means their strategy is consistent whether prey is plentiful or lean.

As far a better hunting strategy in relation to passing on their genes (point of biology), I would say that the wolf's is better at creating stronger predators (by favoring the strong members).

That depends. The wolf and the tiger have very similar strategies:

Wolves roam in packs, and strategize their hunts. When they catch the scent of or spot prey, they will often surround the target by placing themselves in strategic positions around it. Then, the wolves will ambush the target and kill it quickly. The food is then split among them.

Tigers are not pack animals, and hunt alone. They can run very quickly, but only for a short amount of time. The tigers will often hide in bushes or tall grass near its prey, and ambush it. This way the tiger doesn't have to run very far, and has the element of surprise.

The fact that the wolf is a pack animal may make killing prey easier, however that always means less food, as they must share it. A tiger can eat as much as he wants, but hunting may not be as easy. Tigers, are however, much more vicious than wolves, and have bee known to attack larger prey, such as crocodiles.

To conclude, they are very similar, and there isn't really that much of a difference. You can pretty much choose for yourself!

Well a tiger is bigger and stronger and possibly faster.

So I would go with a tiger.
