Why are dinosaur bone displays plastic?

Fossils aren't actually bones. Organic matter has been replaced by minerals - fossils are rock. In that way, no: museums don't display dino bones.

Real fossils of dino bones are displayed, yes. Sometimes though the fossil may be rare or fragile, so a plaster or resin replica is made for display. This also means that the same "fossil" can be displayed at more than one museum.

Not dinosaur bones (by this time they are fossilized and are rock) . Actual specimens are heavy and may be fragile. Not something you want people to touch. And usually not in plastic but plaster or fiberglass casts from the original fossil parts......

The bones are too heavy to stand by themselves. The reason the dinosaurs could walk was because of the muscles that held the bones up.

1) They're heavy (calcified).

2) They're priceless and fragile and will get destroyed by kids or exposure.
