Why are people against seal hunting?

because seals are cute. people tend to ignore or forget the reasoning for hunting if a cute animal is being hurt

Because they're absolutely clueless about the whole "industry" and see a cute little seal pup and think it's "inhumane" to be clubbing seals all because of the BS that PeTA had propagandized to denote how "cruel" it is. That's why.

All people see is posters of white coat seals. They assume those animals are being killed and when anti-sealing groups show posters of bloody ice patches and make claims like seals being skinned alive, or the hunt being a sport people get caught up in it.

If seals were ugly or the hunt happened behind closed doors no one would care. Out of sight out of mind.

It's about pelts meat and oil not just fur.

Vets are even holding workshops on sealing why would vets support something that is inhumane?

Chickens are killed after a few weeks but no one kicks up a fuss about them.

Every nation of the world hunts their local wildlife why should Atlantic Canada be picked on?

First, because we already wiped out 70% of them and that had a profound affect on the whales they were prey for.

Second, yes, it is slightly more humane (remember you are hunting them and their families)

Third, they were rarely eaten before the invention of the gun, even after they weren't eaten often as they didn't taste good. Whale blubber is actually more the human staple in that part of the world

First of all people need seal meat to survive in that area, there is almost no vegetation, they can't raise animals and fish is hard to get.

Second it is much more human than factory farming where the animals live in cramped, dirty conditions.

Third it had been a part of their life for thousands of years and their only means of survival.
