Would it be alright to buy a budgie (parakeet) from a pet store?

it probably wont be a good idea. escpecially if this is going to be your first bird. i tried finding budgies on craigslist but i couldnt find any but some that cost $60, which was a ripoff. so i got mine from petsmart.

they said the budgies are about 5-6 months old, but i figured out that my budgie was probably 3-4 months old when i got her.

i know for sure that the birds from petsmart and maybe petco are usually healthy. they take them to the vet before selling them.

but pets from petstores was usually always untame. it will be very diffucult taming the bird. now my budgie is about 80% tame, but im still working on getting her to step onto my finger inside the cage, not just outside, and ive had her for 4 months already. im guessing that it might have been easier for me because my budgie was really young when i got her.

i would recommend not to get a bird from the petstore. im looking to get another budgie, but this time i decided i wont go to the petstore because it will take too long to tame.

try craigslist. or just search the internet.

It's not ideal. You will have no guarantees about the bird's age and temperament, and will have to work harder to tame it. Look in to adoption first, petfinder lists animals in your area. You may be able to find a nice bird that already is used to people.

If you can't give the bird attention and playtime every day, you should get a pair. But they will probably bond closer to each other than with you.

Keep in mind that by the time the pet stores get them, the birds are already a year old or close to it. It also will not be tamed, coming from a pet store. So, it would not be my choice. Try Craig's List.

Getting them from a pet store should be okay... But I'd check to see if there are any unwanted ones first. Also, I'd recommend two. That way, when you aren't around, they'll have company and won't feel so lonely. Unless you have a lot of time to dedicate to your bird every day, I'd say getting two would be best.

I'm really interested in the idea of getting a bird. I have been for years.

However, when I go to locate an available breeder, the closest I can find online is a state or two away.

Would it be okay to instead buy a bird from a pet store? And should I get just one?
