They will not stop caring for their chicks, after they are hatched, unless it becomes completely impossible.
They will risk their own lives dive-bombing the cat to protect the chicks.
Birds are not like mammals; they do not react to your scent on or near their babies.
it you touch a egg the mommy bird will not take care of the egg or if the eggs hatched and you touched the chicks the mommy wont take care of the chicks birds have a very good smell even chicks if you go close to a nest that is ok just to look at it but don't touch it or don't touch the nest or the stuff on the stuff in the nest if you look at the nest that is ok to look at it so yes you can look at it
Don't listen to brad. Birds have next to no sense of smell save for a few select ones like vultures.
Either way birds are very good parents just getting near it won't deter them.
It's fine. I heard that birds don't have a good sense of smell like other animals do and won't kill their young if a human touches it.
I was going to cut a branch that hangs to low from a tree. When I walked up to the branch I noticed a bird nest. I did not touch it. I did tip toe to look in it but still could not see inside. I decided to leave it alone and am of course not going to cut it. My question is since walked up to it will the mother bird still go to it?? I noticed a bird from that tree one day dive bombing a stray cat that walked across by yard, I guess that is the mother or father bird. Hopefully I did not ruin her nest
