My parakeet can't keep its eyes open for long?

No this doesn't mean your bird is going to die...

Since your parakeet is new he/she may be a bit stressed and isn't getting enough sleep. Do you put a blanket/towel/sheet over the cage at night? Is the cage in a calm and quiet room?

Parakeets can be really sensitive to changes in their environment and it can a week sometimes even longer for them to fully adjust. I suggest giving the vet a call to see what they have to say just to make sure everything is okay.

Here's a site that list common parakeet behaviors:

Hope this helps!

Why would you buy a dead bird?

Sounds to me like your bird is sick, and soon will die.

Ever since I bought my parakeet from the store it can't seem to keep its eyes open for more than a couple seconds at a time. I'm not sure if it was like this in the store but if it was I did not notice. At first I thought it was just sleepy so I let it be, but it has been a couple days and the condition hasn't changed. Is this normal for birds or should I take it to a vet?
