My vets advice about my budgie. But I have a doubt about it. Want opinions?

UMMM-- I'm not too sure how to answer this but I can tell you I have never had a bird treated for worms. I have had many birds in for physicals (both well and not feeling good) and here is in general how a simple physical goes.

First a tech observes the bird and sees how it is acting. She asks questions about problems and handles the bird. If it flies she watches that too. She will weigh the bird on a special gram scale.

Next the vet handles the bird allover looks at ears ,nares,(nose) listens to heart, looks at throat, and takes a poop sample for analysis. This will show infections and parasites. She may suggest a blood test if the fecal test isn't right. They can usually tell when a bird has a tumor by handling it.

My birds don't mind going to the vet and show off for the techs & vet. Be forewarned an avian vet and tests are expensive. Is your vet an avian yet? A vet who is not an avian vet may only be guessing as it takes specialized studies to treat birds. That's why avian vets are expensive.

Go back and ask/demand for a blood and stool test to be done ( it WILL cost you). Or you can take the vet's advice and get the medicine (cheaper; may or may not solve the problem).

My budgie had a swollen abdomen and the area was featherless. So I took it to the vet because I had read that it can be a fatty tumour or cancerous tumour or worms. So many possibilities. My vet held it , examined it and told me it had swollen intestine and he gave me medicine for it. But he didnot ask me any blood test or stool test for my bird. What I dont understand is can he claim that my bird has intestinal swelling without blood and stool test. Do you think its possible.
