Scared about rabies?

Remember rabies is just as scared of you as you are of it.

Wait a minute. Oh you mean rabies as in the foaming mouth syndrome, Cujo, killer squirrel thing. Sorry can't help you there.

well is they cat rabid, or dead? if not then you should be okay. it usually takes a week for the rabies virus to kill the animal.

You CANNOT get rabies from a cats nails. A rabid animal must bite you hard enough to break the skin and the saliva must get into your blood stream to transmit the virus. Also, a pet cat, YOUR pet cat would be HIGHLY unlikey to get rabies..it would have had to have been attacked by a rabid wild animal and would have to have a deep bite would in which it got the virus. Does your cat have wounds? Is there a rabies outbreak in your area? Rabies is not very common in the US at ALL, epecially not in pets. Not even all that common in wildlife and if there was a rabies outbreak in your area, it would be widely known. on the news etc. to warn people. Also, if your cat had rabies it would be very sicke and near death by now, if not dead already.

1st off I am a hypochondriac. SO that may just be it, but I have a cat that hasn't have an updated rabies shot, and we let him go out. VERY FRIENDLY CAT, rubs up on my leg, plays with toys, not aggressive, still no signs at all. On Saturday April 12th I had him on my lap , and my brother kind of scared him when he shut the door pretty hard which caused his nail to poke me. It didn't hurt, no blood, small tiny poke, barely noticeable. Well now it's been about 6 days, and I have a headache and sore throat, no fever though. Should I be worried at all though?
