I've done a bit of searching, but not been able to come up with anything, sorry. I can't tell if it has 6 legs or 8, as there seems to be another set under there. That flat carapace is very unusual. You can try posting the image to What's That Bug website; they may be able to help:

If you have a dog or cat that goes outdoors, they may be bringing it in. They can carry diseases such as Lyme disease. I would suggest reading up on them, and treating your animals if that is the case.
Yup, I agree, it is a tick of some kind. A good tick and flea spray can help. Especially if you have pets. An exterminator might be able to help as well.
