Why does pandas sleep so much?

I'm doing a oral test and I'm doing it about pandas, I've been researching facts about it and I can't find a answer to this one, thanks!

sleep is a good energy conservation strategy, they have a poor diet, bamboo shoots are inadequate to sustain an active lifestyle, hence they sleep a lot.

you can also see this strategy employed by other species, sloths, koala bears for instance.

Giant pandas sleep a lot because they can save energy by doing that. Cats sleep a lot too for the same reason. Giant pandas eat a low energy diet of bamboo and they are not as efficient in digesting it as the red panda. The red panda can digest bamboo better, so it is more active than the giant panda. Cats sleep a lot because they are not sure when their next meal may come. Therefore there is no reason to waste energy by moving around without a good reason.
