Always be wary before taking a dip, whether in a pool or body of water. However, I don't think you should worry too much. Turtles don't come back for revenge, although crows do O_O
They aren't very aggressive if you don't handle them. I stepped on an adult when I was a kid and then I picked it up not knowing what it was. It stretched its neck back to bite me but couldn't reach. It had quite the powerful bite but it never managed to bite any of us. I would be careful about what I stepped on an not pick them up but other than that they aren't much of a hazard.
You should be safe as long as you don't mess with them and stay out of their way. I used to swim in my Grandmas creek all the time filled with snakes. We seen a snake everyday. As long as you just stay out of their way you will be fine. It won't eat your face either. As long as you don't put your face in it's face.

Okay I was swimming at my regular creek I swim in with my friends and then this adorable little turtle floats by and..oh my god it was too much, but we were standing there and laughing about what if its a baby snapping turtle. I'M LIKE NOW 97% SURE IT WAS. I guess what I'm trying to ask is...where there is a baby snapping turtle will there be a baby? Also I let it go and it swam its way down the rapids and went onward with it's journey. Will it come back to eat my face? Should I be scared? Halp
