Try showing three colors each a different shape, add a same color. Hold a treat between your fingers and encourage it by touching the color (saying the color) and then touch the matching color (saying the color) giving the treat when he pecks the matched color. Say good boy/girl, green. Add a same shape again (with treat) touch the shape (saying square) and then touch the matching shape (saying square) holding the treat for it to peck at the matching shape.
