Now, in the case of insects, all insects of a given species tend to behave the same way, even when grown in the lab in different conditions. That strongly suggests they have innate instinctive behavior.
There are two explanations of behavior--learning and instinct. You learn which behavior goes with which explanation through observation and inference, and that's true whether the subject is a human being or an insect.
We can't. But by observing the behavior of an insect, we know that insects don't teach their offspring any behaviors. The only conclusion we can draw is that they are preprogrammed with the information.
