Are spiders more active this time of year?

Early spring to late autumn is usually when spiders are the most active, but many house spiders may remain active all year long. Also true for tropical climates.

The really big house spiders you have are very harmless, I let them run free in the house to eat pest bugs, but that is your call.

Another harmless spider these could be are wolf spiders. they are outdoor spiders, so finding these, just release them outside.

Not so much; it's just that you're noticing the big adults who overwintered running around looking for hot dates. That will cool off in a bit until later, in the fall, when the next wave comes into the house looking for a good place to spend the winter.

I live in England.

This last week I am seeing big a$$ spiders around the house, at least one a day, in different areas, I get rid of them as I see them so I am definately not being followed by the same spider!
