Help with an injured butterfly?

He / she / it will be better off if you take him / her / it back outside where you found him / her /it. Nature will take it;s / her course. It's not an animal , it's an insect.

Let God make the decision, hun. It's sad.....but if we tried to save every creature.......ants would put us out of our misery. Just say a little prayer and put it in HIS hands. :-)

Butterflies are so delicate......even tampering with the thing my alter it's life.

I doubt there is an awful lot I can do to help, but I found a common peacock butterfly on the ground, standing a little lop-sided, and I have taken it inside; it only appears to have four legs (two on each side) and won't drink (I gave it a sugar-water solution and half a strawberry but it doesn't seem interested - it's able to open its proboscis but doesn't really want anything). It has tried to fly but just falls to the ground (but wings look fine), and when it opens its wings there is a really bizarre crackling sound. There is a little piece of something on it's back (I think it's just a tiny piece of tissue or feather or something) which could be weighing it down, and I'll try to get it off but it's quite difficult because the wings are closed most of the time and I don't want to injure/stress the butterfly by prising them open. It also vibrates/shakes sometimes, which is rather odd. I was just wondering if there was anything I could do - whether it would be best to just keep it in the house away from predators and feed it (how often?). And is there any way I can open the wings out to remove whatever it is from its back? Is it likely to survive? Any conditions it should be kept in? Thank you for any help/information!

Also, a note: I've asked about injured insects before and people have made jokes about just killing them, so if you were going to tell me to step on it, please don't bother. Thank you!
