Well it depends on what type of breed the bird is. I used to own a blue Parakeet and I fed him the correct seeds for his breed from my local pet store. I sometimes would give him fruit like grapes, or bananas. It really all depends on your bird. If you get the wrong food, he might not be able to eat it because it might be to big for his beak to break and eat!
