Its actually illegal to take any animal from the wild and keep it as a pet unless you have a permit. Might seem silly but that law is in place to protect animals from poor homes, illegal trade as well as keeping wild populations safe.
Sure. They are not endangered. Unless your state or city prohibits keeping them, it should be fine.
